If USCIS receives both the applications, it will return the second application as a duplicate. I don't kow if they keep the money though ...

You can consider filing a request with Department of Labor under freedom of information Act. (FOIA). DOL has a webpage dedicated to FOIA and how to apply. Under this they will be obliged to give you a response in 20 days on whether they will provide the information or not (only yes or no). I am in same situation and had a meeting with my attorney to get more information, according to his experience with all his cases to date, he said there is 70 - 30 ratio, 70% have recieved rfe and 30% got approved without rfe. And after july fiasco he said it's better to wait for rfe and respond rather then ammending 485 application, now that's another question that my attorney will easily make it to top 10 list of all time worst attorneys. So I am looking for second opinion too.
So I would say wait till you get an RFE and respond ASAP.

Me also got RFE for 485. My priority date is 2006 Aug. Mine was related to medical report. Dr corrected the mistake and replied back.

There is No formula. It is Lucky or Unlucky.
It is based on Karma. I know people who got GC in 20 days and still waiting for it for 10 years. I am waiting on it for 5 years now. Do not try to come up with formulas. I and my friend with the same pd filed on the same day. His went to TSC and mine to NSC. He already got his GC 2 weeks ago.

According to IRS you are citizen(Any one who stays more that 180 days and pays taxes in us is a citizen according to them). You can apply for student Loan as a citizen if you use this clause intelligently. This is how most students get credit cards. If you say you are on H1 to a credit card company they will never give you the card.
Again this is only my opinion. I might be wrong.:)

Iam july 2nd filers for I-485, I-765 and I-131 at the Nebraska Service center. Haven't seen any activity yet. called the USCIS last evening and the answer I got is still not in the system. Is there anyone who is still in the same boat? please update!

Maybe because everybody is frustated by immigration laws.

My attorney tells me they don't give employees copies of labor applications.
Is this normal? Would I need it in future - if I switch jobs 180 days after 485 etc?
My lawyer sends each and every piece of information. They sent 9089 for review,797 for labor also. They sent me the original approved labor certificate for my signature to file for 140. and also 797 copy for 140.
Though the employer processes labor and 140, Employee should ensure the accuracy of the information on all the applications. Employer should not deny for this.
These employers that abuse employees need to learn some lessons on how to treat their employees.
I think IV needs to take an inititave on these small scale body shopping employers who are not treating their employers with respect and the dignity they deserve.
