I suspect the success of Zeus and other botnets that target Windows is due to Windows XP admin accounts being used for day to day computing and possibly, on a much more limited scale, users turning off UAC in admin accounts in Windows Vista/7.

If this new Mac botnet modelled after Zeus does not become as problematic as its Windows counterparts albiet in terms of percentage of user base infected, this will show that much of the malware problems out in the wild are due to users running with elevated privileges and that utilizing an authentication mechanism by default is effective at inhibiting malware. Basically, it will show that the average user is not as helpless as AV software vendors try to make users feel.

Well, a couple things to consider...

    1) Make sure the 360 supports 1080p over VGA (it didn't used to, but they did update it last year, so it might now).

    2) There's a very good likelihood that the 360 isn't rendering 1080p (or even 1080i) for most/any games. It's probably rendering at 540p60 and scaling that to 1080i30 or 1080i60. For 1080p it's probably upscaling 720p. Point is that if your set has a good scaler/deinterlacer for 1080i to 1080p (which it very probably does) using 1080i over component is probably going to look just as good as HDMI.

EDIT: Oops, realized you were asking about HDDVD as well as games - which means the 360 is doing "real" 1080p. If you are serious about HDDVD movies you should probably consider the HDMI equipped connection, just in case they decide to turn on the token constraint flags.

I'm sure they are dying to hear your plan.

I say may the best man (company) win. To be honest, and this is just opinion, I think Cisco threw the "iPhone" out there because they knew the real iPhone was coming (as did we all) and wanted to bank on it somehow, just like I'm sure iPhone-related email addresses were swiped up recently too.

I could be wrong, but prove it.

I was thinking that, but Linksys/Cisco filed for the trademark in 1999.

Cisco have owned this trademark for years. Apple were in negotiations to buy it, but for whatever reason they couldn't close the deal in time. Apple should therefore have not announced that the product was going to be called iPhone at the keynote.

Doing so before the deal was done was a big mistake. Cisco can now triple the price for the name and Apple either have to pay or look humiliated.

Apple can throw as many lawyers as they like at it now, but that name is still Cisco's property. Last time I looked, Cisco could afford a big legal team of their own. They can't be bullied here.

EDIT : Although whether the situation worldwide is quite so clear cut is debatable. Article from The Register. (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/01/12/cisco_apple_iphone_trademark_spat/)

Yes, it looks like there is more to it, namely expiration of the trademark without usage in time.

Personally i think that they both should just play nice.

I mean why doesn't Apple just do what they did with the Apple TV. Throw the Apple Logo in front of it. Then Linksys should do the same.

    Digg this:

Cisco lost rights to iPhone trademark last year, experts say. (http://blogs.zdnet.com/Burnette/?p=236)

Cisco claims Apple created phony company to sidestep iPhone trademark. (http://money.canoe.ca/News/TopPhoto/2007/01/10/3279889-ap.html)

Interesting links. The iPhone is dead, long live the iPhone.

byteSizeOfElement is wrong. Your code will only work (if all other bugs are fixed) with 64 bit code, not with 32 bit code.

    Care to explain why?

Having little faith in the user (mainly me) to actually release the pointer, I already decided to get the value by passing a reference.

Awesome. I know two developers (actually, the iPhone teachers at my college) who went, but were interested in multiple sessions running at the same time. This made their day.

Looks like Apple made it clear to me what size iPad they want me to buy. :)

Working off the server is just fine, and shouldn't be a performance problem with just four users on the mini. Be sure that any temporary files are being created locally.

That falls under "esoteric knowledge that nobody should ever bother with". Which means it immediately fails a code review, just like someone writing "a + 1 << i" and expecting people to know which operator has higher precedence.

In all honesty I think that's a bit harsh. Anyone who uses memcpy a lot should know what it returns (if you don't and just ignore the returned value then you don't know what you are returning which I think is very bad practice). Anyone who does not use it a lot can be expected to lookup the documentation: that's what I did as soon as I opened this thread.

I knew someone would suggest that... LOL! In user accounts under my name the only thing I see is ituneshelper and some speech thing. But, would ituneshelper prevent my IMac from sleeping, I wonder?

    Regards,

    Peter

I'm not sure. I have the same issue with my MacBook most of the time, it just won't fully sleep by itself, only the display sleeps. I have never been able to get to the root of it, although I think iTunesHelper may have had something to do with it. I got rid of it, since the only thing it does is open iTunes when an iDevice is connected.

Didn't get the ad screen for me but I've stopped visiting SpyMac a loong time ago.

And yes I hate those animated adverts, makes me vow to never buy the product that's being advertising. Had an odd situation on another website awhile ago, where the page would never render correctly in Safari when a Microsoft Office banner came up. If it was any other ad then the page would render fine, if it was Microsoft's turn then I would have to use Firefox...conspiracy I tell you! :p

For what it's worth, I'll just throw in here that I too am waiting for a PM revision. (And have been, since the initial introduction, and then much more expectantly since MWSF).

*runs around room screaming in frustration, leaving trail of hair behind*

Macrumors is a cool site and the forums have a lot of cool people, but I think getting involved in the rumor mill has caused some serious stress...

Yeah, you're not the only one who's been stressing. It's especially not good when you tell PC people that you live with "I'm gonna get a dual G5 real soon and it's gonna be BADA**"...maybe with different words but to that degree, and the powermac doesn't even come out. I'm getting quite frustrated. I just ignore "Magic Tuesdays" anymore.

    Here's the situation...
Going to a party. The room has power, but the house does not have internet (believe it or not...), and the area doesn't really get strong cell/data signals.

Are there any speakers that I can simply plug into a power outlet (or use batteries) and then can talk to my iPhone (or MacBook) wirelessly/bluetooth, and the sound can fill a room maybe 45ft x 60ft (doesn't have to be super loud like a concert, more like background music). I would like there to be 2 (or more) speakers in the room so everyone can hear clearly. Portable speakers with an iPhone dock (like a Base SoundDock or or Logitech S715) I don't think will cut it - I don't want to have to have it cranked up by some people just to folks on the other side of the room can hear ok.

Fine if I have to get something to plug into the iPhone/laptop, or some main "controller" unit that I have to plug into them that then talks to the speakers. Basically I'm envisioning something like a Sonos S5 that doesn't require an internet connection (which it seems to from all the material I have read). I'm flexible on dollars - just can't have any cords running across the room. Or like a Jawbone JAMBOX, but have the ability to set up 2+ speakers at the same time (doesn't have to be stereo, which I'm not sure would even be possible anyways).

    Thanks so much everyone!! :apple:

    Again, proving my ignorance...
"AP" is what? "Associated Press"? Or, I mean, "Associated Press?"

No, I don't - that looks like I'm using "Associated Press?" as a phrase.

I'm so confused. I think I'll just speak my posts from now on and supply the link to the audio file.

No, wait, I'll have to record them with my iSight... otherwise, I'll not be able to do the "air quotes". "Air quotes." Dammit....
I used to study Journalism at a college in New York and AP Style Book is a bible for proper writing styles for news stories. Even though I graduated with an Asoociate in Applied Science in Journalism years ago, I still have this Style Book.

In English language versions of the franchise, it was originally "Gotta catch 'em all!," although it is now no longer officially used except in the spin-off anime series Pokmon Chronicles.

I'm not seeing anything unusual with those caps, but could you describe what you see a little more? What makes you suspect those caps?

The ones on the left look really fat to me. As i said i could be wrong on this, i don't know much about capacitors. But if the things on the left and on the right are both capactiors, then the ones on the left are 2x the size of the ones on the right in person. They are also taller. is this normal?

I saw this image on google and read several other posts on forums and they said the 3rd LED could be a capacitor issue.
